Technical Case Visual

Case Description

After engine start, the T56 engine power section oil pressure indication was reading 62 PSI, which exceeded the normal operating limit of 50–60 PSI. Initial troubleshooting focused on the oil pressure indication system by replacing the power section oil pressure transmitter; however, the indication remained unchanged at 62 PSI.

Further troubleshooting was performed in accordance with the applicable maintenance manual procedures for the T56 engine oil system. Inspection and adjustment of the power section main oil pump pressure regulator were carried out. The regulator spring seat was adjusted to bring the oil pressure within specified limits.

After maintenance action and engine re-run, the power section oil pressure stabilized at 57 PSI, which is within the normal operating range. Engine operation and oil system performance were subsequently verified as satisfactory.

The T56 oil system manual states that the power section oil pressure should be adjusted to 55 ± 5 PSI.
Required Tools

T56 Engine Maintenance Manual (Chapter 7 – Engine Oil System)
Standard aircraft maintenance tool kit
Oil pressure transmitter replacement tools
Main oil pump regulator adjustment tools
Engine ground run equipment
Communication headset
Flashlight and inspection mirror

Safety Protocol

Ensure aircraft is properly grounded before engine run.
Follow all T56 engine ground run safety procedures.
Maintain safe clearance around propeller arc during engine operation.
Verify oil quantity and servicing before maintenance action.
Monitor engine instruments continuously during engine run.
Use proper PPE including hearing and eye protection.
Ensure fire guard and extinguisher are available during engine operation.

Lessons Learned

High oil pressure indications may not always be caused by a faulty transmitter.
Oil system troubleshooting should include both indication components and mechanical regulation components.
Proper adjustment of the power section oil pump regulator can restore oil pressure to normal operating limits.
Maintenance manual limits and adjustment procedures must be strictly followed during troubleshooting.
Performing systematic troubleshooting prevents unnecessary component replacement.
